Cecelia Duncan Newkirk
Since graduation I have been working as an art teacher in NR, Yonkers, NYC and one semester in London, England. I took a departure from teaching after getting laid off due to budget cuts - a situation that many art and music teachers face, and became a handbag designer travelling to Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan. I worked for a company that designed bags, wallets, back packs and more here and produced them in Taiwan and China. After several years on the road as a designer, I missed teaching and returned to New Rochelle and taught fine and commercial art classes at the Isaac E. Young for 15 years. I took an early retirement at age 58 with my full 25 year pension to spend more time raising my adopted daughter who was born with 3 mental disorders ( my own son had died as a baby). I continued to teach in the NR Home Instruction Program helping students in elementary and middle schools with academic courses for 8 years. Throughout my years following college graduation, I have focused on creating art and being in numerous exhibits, and have now started an art company, Got Art? Inc.
